“I am a media ambassador for Beat, the UK's leading charity for anything related to food disorders.”
My first step into the counselling world initially began by training in group therapy with Beat, the UK"s national charity for Eating Disorders. I became a co-facilitator of the Yorkshire Centre for Eating Disorders Carer's support Group soon after. This service is in its 14th year and it's a pleasure to continue to be involved with such a valued organisation.
My work with Beat was the catalyst for seeking out further training in face-to-face counselling and I have experience of working in primary schools, secondary schools and sixth from colleges as well as a crisis service. I currently work in various GP surgeries in York for the NHS as well as in Private Practice.
In 2012 I was nominated for a National Beat award for "Local Champion" for my work in raising the public's awareness of Eating Disorders.
I have recently been awarded the title Media Ambassador for Beat following numerous guest appearances on BBC Breakfast television, BBC Radio Leeds, Capital and Heart FM. On separate occasions I have discussed the role the media plays in eating disorders, the role of the Carer in the recovery of an eating disorder sufferer, body image and self esteem among other issues related to Eating Disorders.
I am fully committed to regular Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as part of my BACP Registered Membership. I also hold an enhanced DBS certificate and am trained in safeguarding children and young people by Leeds City Council.
I am currently working towards my Master Practitioner Award in Eating Disorders and Obesity.
